Mafikizolo Should Come the United States too

New Zimbabwe.com reports that MAFIKIZOLO, the undisputed dance and best pop group from South Africa, return to the UK by demand. They will be rocking UK with larger than life house DJ OSKIDO, alongside the mesmerising new kid on the block, TINA, of the 'Bangiloyile' Fame.

This will be a tour to remember, with a mixture of hot danceable tunes cooked from a fusion of South African township disco, jazz, pop, mbaqanga and house. This is a star studded and powerful event, and there can never be a better combination to Celebrate South Africa Freedom Day.

I love that group. However, like everything else that came out after I left, I love it with a grudge ha ha because I did not get to experience it with everybody else in the loktshins. That's what makes the music. I won't be disappointed if they come to the US though.

Just the chance that they will visit the states is too much for me to handle! If anyone knows this to be true, please let me know...I will not miss them....

Roland Mhasvi's Flowers

This is the cover of my copy of Roland Masvi's Flowers of Yesterday, a collection I reviewed in 1996 for The Herald. I was going through my old stuff when I saw this book in my old collection.  As I was flipping through the pages, I saw the cut-out for the original review, which in part reads: "This is a collection of highly esoteric poetry..., which can be charged of what Afrocentric scholars have described as 'piles of esoterica and ostentatious erudition'... The language is to the ordinary reader opaque, the imagery is inaccessible and the symbolism is surprisingly unusual but invitingly novel...real food for scholars."   The review just reminds me of the Chinweizu days, when we, as university students, had rediscovered African literature and its theory. Talking about Afrocentricity had a certain appeal, and we were looking at a lot of writing through the lenses of this newly-discovered Afrocentricity.
