She attended Mills College and the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) for college and graduate school. In her twenties, she lived in Paris, Seattle, and Washington, D.C., where she freelanced as an editor and writer, before returninto the West Coast to raise a family. Her grandparents’ grandparents’ settled in Humboldt and Mendocino counties in the 19th century, where they farmed, raised cattle and harvested tan oak for leather. Both her parents attended one-room schools; the one in Branscomb still stands. Noah (Supanova) Hayes in action at SPC We had a good reading at SPC on Monday, March 14, featuring David Iribarne and Noah Hayes, their first time sharing the stage, but certainly not my first time hosting them. In February Noah Hayes read at Cosumnes River College with Terry a O'Neal, Takitha Buford, and Shenae Crain. I have also shared the stage with him in different venues in Sacramento. Different audiences are always captivated by his performances. David Iribarne David Iribarne is a regular at the Sacramento Poetry, and I have hosted his reading in 2009. This time he was reading from his new book Bones, Skin, and Soul , which contains elegiac pieces about his late parents. Iribarne's poetry centers mostly on relationships and family matters. Noah Hayes is influenced by his love for hip-hop, particulary the classic hip-hop of the 70s. On April 12, I am hosting a Sacramento Poetry Center reading featuring Nicole Griffin (Oakland), Catherine Daly (Los Angeles, and Margaret Hoehn (Sacramento). All are invited to this night of great poetry. Here are the details: Nicole Griffin Nicole Griffin is a writer and social activist living and loving in Oakland by way of Sacramento. She earned an MFA in Creative Writing/Poetry at Mills College in Oakland last spring and completed June Jordan’s Student-Teacher-Poet program, Poetry for the People at UC Berkeley. Her poems have appeared in the anthology, What I Want from You, The Walrus and The Womanist. She is currently working on her first book of poems, entitled, The Body Remembers. On March 8, I am hosting a big event at the Sacramento Poetry Center, featuring award-winning poets Jim Powell (1993 MacArthur Fellow) and Heidy Steidlmayer ( winner of the J. Howard and Barbara M.J.
