StoryTime , an African new fiction magazine has been granted funding by the UK Arts Council to publish it's first anthology with The Lion Press Ltd . The writers' deadline is July 20, 2009 and the anthology will go to print in early August. The ST Anthology will be launched by The Lion Press at a Zimbabwean Writers festival being organised by them in August. Participation is by the writers already at ST and those who will publish work on the website by July 20. These works must fit the anthology's guidelines in order to be selected. The book is designed to be an eclectic anthology and will only feature the best of all the works at ST. The book is entitled "African Roar: An Eclectic Anthology of African Authors". Anthology Guidelines: Submit short stories between 1500-8000 words. All fiction genres and themes are acceptable, and must fit within the general ST guidelines No children's stories. In celebration of love, StoryTime is featuring three Valentine-day short stories by Ivor W. Hartmann, Nigel Jack, and, of course, Emmanuel Sigauke.

The growing StoryTime , an online magazine for new writing, is accepting stories about Valentine Day. I discovered this Naval Langa's blog through Sarudzayi Chifamba-Barnes. The blog is loaded with information to quench your literary thirst. Langa, a writer and lawyer based in India, posts his short stories, book reviews and other people's stories on this blog that receives hits from all over the world. Naval Langa's literature blog is entitled SHORT STORIES AND BOOK REVIEWS and a good starting point would be to get a taste of Langa's short stories , then move on to courageous reviews of J.M. Coetzee's books here and here , but while you are still there, see all the other entries that Langa has made. Naval Langa is also a follower of StoryTime , and hopefully he will consider submitting something there, to add to the growing number of writers who are serious about their art.

Perhaps there is something happening in Zimbabwean literature that can be called an event. This sentence echoes Jacques Derrida's first sentence of "Structure, Sign and Play in the Discourse of the Human Sciences", which I have read quite a few times and enjoyed. Since Derrida raised the application of the word "event" to be understood as a rupture , a "redoubling", I use it here to apply to the unstoppable expansion, explosion, if you will, of Zimbabwean literature. Notice that it is easy not to realize that this is happening, because the world's eyes are focusing on the more urgent matters, the cholera, the rotting politics, but the literary EVENT (made up of many developments we can call events) is happening. I use the word to show how much I enjoy talking about this growth, this rich promise of a literature finally breaking free and freeing, recentering and decentering (a positive thing) itself.
