Last New Dimension Event to Showcase Top Poetry Talent
Sacramento poets are converging on New Dimension Saturday, September 25 to celebrate an event that has brought poetry to the people for over ten years. The popular poetry series, "The Show at Wo'se" is moving to a new venue. More than 15 prominents poets with showcase their best from 7 to 10 PM. Among the features are Sacramento Poet Laureate Bob Stanley, NSAA, Supanova, Immobme, Terry Moore, Andy Jones, the vibrant Nikki Brock and many more. Music will be provided by Mr Garret Perkins, a smooth jazz artist, and singers Clarenze Davis and Lisa Gardenia will perform. I will read a poem or two as well.
Below is my brief interview with Terry Moore, nationally renowned performance poet and coordinator of this event:
1. How long have you been involved with The Show?
I have been involved for the entire 10 years.
2. What are some of the most memorable events?
Standing on stage and seeing the place completely packed when we have invited guest poets and singers from out of town.
The most memorable came when a singer from New Orleans, Kelly Love Jones received a long standing ovation after just two songs in August of this year. The audience showed so much support for her and her art form. It was beautiful and she was so impressed.!
The other was when an audience member came up to me and handed me $100. He said he loved what we were doing for poetry, poets and the youth in our community and wanted us to keep it up. We were short that night and his donation helped us to pay our feature. We broke even. That was a great example of how we are connected to the community and the community is connected to us. WE make it work together.
The last has happened on several occasions. I have witnessed first time open mic poets get standing ovations and watched the joy on their faces as they went back to their seats. It actually brought tears to my eyes. For I was once a first time open mic poet. That love can either push a poet forward into years of success or chase a poet back to their home never to read again. It made me proud to have a venue for people to share their work at.
3. Is there going to be a new venue for the series? If not, what's to replace it?
I am very close to securing a new venue. However, unfortunately, I could not come to a reasonable agreement in which we would have kept "The Show" in the Oak Park area. I feel that's the area that needed an event like "The Show" and appreciated it the most.
4. What comments do you have about the upcoming reading? What do you want audiences to know?
That this will be a celebration of the spoken word art and its success in Sacramento not just a regular poetry night. We have several venues that are equally successful. So I have reached out and either invited or accepted poets from all venues to participate in this final event at New Dimension. Not a lot of venues make it ten years. Please come out and celebrate history and a push for forward movement.
