Full Cover of African Roar

African Roar Synopis:

African Roar is a fiction anthology drawn from the very best stories
published from 2007-2009, in the StoryTime weekly literary ezine
dedicated to publishing African writers. Between these covers you
will find eleven stories that stand as a testament to the upsurge of
talented African writers boldly utilising the cutting edge of
technology and the writing craft to be read globally. Spanning
Africa and the African Diaspora in past, present and future, each
story has a fresh and diverse vision that opens up new vistas of
experience. From the lucid terrors of domestic violence through the
eyes of a child, and the anguish of those left behind by a fleeing
Diaspora, to a full circle, when the prey becomes the hunter and
has the opportunity for revenge, and a dryly humourous look at
what it's like to lose a quarter of your brain, to name just a few of
the treasures that lie within.

Cover Blurbs:

"With a selection of finely-wrought stories that are (mostly) African in setting yet universal in artistic compass, this anthology announces its credentials with—yes, I must—a roar. From voice-precise character portraits to sweeping narratives of cultural angst, all are contained within these covers." — A. Igoni Barrett, author of From Caves of Rotten Teeth.

"African Roar represents a snapshot of the African continent’s contemporary mature talent. Going beyond polemics of post-colonialism, this anthology instead turns the eye inward, towards the human struggle of individuals and their existential journeys of longing, pathos, madness, love, and absence."
Rosa Martha Villarreal, author of The Stillness of Love and Exile.

"This is an eclectic collection of short stories offering ample evidence that African literature is alive and well. New talent rises every day from the dawn of yesterday's departure. It provokes thought in the sense that the featured writers challenge the reader's notion of African literature, physical boundaries, and indeed, who we are." — Ikhide Ikheloa.

Other blurbs:

"Nothing could be more heartwarming than an assortment of simple delights sprinkled with a relish as piquant as it is unforgettable. And that you will find in African Roar." — Uche Peter Umez, author of Dark through the Delta.

"Here’s a balanced diet of authentic Africa roaring vibrantly and harmoniously in a feisty meeting of creative minds. The simple thoughts of a child processing the result of incipient domestic violence; the bitterness engendered by years of corruption; the sweet, almost poetic recollection of loving; unexplainable superstitions; family relationships. Like in a delicious African dish all these ingredients blend and meld in the same pot with visions and ponderings from Africa and the African diaspora: an experience that lingers sweetly on the tongue." — Ozioma Izuora, author of the novel, Dreams Deferred

"This is an exciting collection, one that as aptly titled roars aloud, that African writing has changed gear and is cruising at top speed along with her contemporaries. All the stories are refreshing, telling today s African stories in a way that is not drab and deepressing, announcing to the world that African writing is alive and eager to conquer new grounds. Its impressive to note also that African writers have not been left behind in the area of using today s technology in sharing their works with an increasingly digitalised world audience given that all the stories are products of an e-magazine. I thorougly enjoyed this and I am proud to share the same platform with all eleven writers in this collection." Sylva Nze Ifedigbo, writer.
