HUMAN RIGHTS FILM SCREENING
‘Promoting Social Responsibility through Film’
Profile
The Creative Writing Africa Trust (CWA) and the Movies That Matter Foundation facilitated by the Pamberi Trust and the Zimbabwe-German Society are holding a Human Rights film-screening and discussion at the Zimbabwe- German Society (51 Lawson Avenue, Milton Park, Harare) on Friday 22 January 2010 at 17.30 hours and at the Mannenberg on Fife Avenue Shopping Centre on Saturday January 23 at 11.00 hours

The Creative Writing Africa (CWA) Trust aims at developing the literary arts and associated fields on the continent. Towards this end, the Trust is instituting an annual Human Rights Film Festival for the benefit of the less-privileged of various communities of Zimbabwe.
Activities to date
The CWA Trust on 16 June 2009 (The Day of the African Child) used the Mai Musodzi Community Hall in Mbare to screen the following documentaries:
 ‘Stronger than Fear,’ a documentary on migration
 ‘Eclipse,’ a documentary on child-headed families
 ‘Educating Lucia,’ a documentary on the problems faced by the girl child
The Trust also screened at the same venue on 21 September 2009 (World Peace Day) the peace advocacy documentary, ‘The Day After Peace’ by Jeremy Gilley of The Peace One Day Foundation.

The Screening at the Zimbabwe-German Society (ZGS) January 22
• This World: The Hurricane That Shook America (2005) by Ruhi Hamid

Follow-up Discussion Topic: Human Rights and Social Responsibility in the context of Hurricane Katrina and similar disasters.
Facilitator: Memory Chirere, a distinguished academic, poet and award-winning author.
Chairperson: David Mungoshi, a communication skills enthusiast, film actor and author of ‘The Fading Sun.’
The Screening at the Mannenberg January 23
• ‘War Dance, (2008)’ by Sean Fine and Andrea Nix, a documentary about how three Ugandan children defy the war raging around them to compete in a music and dance festival.
• A Tribute to the late Olley Maruma, a renowned Zimbabwean writer, journalist and filmmaker: Snippets of his films
Follow-up Discussion Topic: Youth and Human Rights: What do Human Rights mean to you?
Facilitator: Ngoni ‘Upmost’ Tapiwa from Magamba Youth Network.
Chairperson: Ronald Jongwe, a human rights poet and activist.
