amaBooks: Call for Short Story Submissions

‘amaBooks Publishers are looking for short stories for a joint publication with Parthian Books of Wales. The launch date for the book is 1 March 2009.

There is no set length for the pieces, or any theme. We would prefer pieces that reflect life in Zimbabwe, and that are accessible to and have meaning for readers in the United Kingdom.

The final deadline for submissions is 31 August 2008, though we would be delighted to receive as many pieces as possible before then.

Please email submissions to amabooks@gator.co.zw. Unfortunately ‘amaBooks are not in a position to acknowledge receipt of submissions and only those whose pieces are chosen for the publication will be contacted. Copyright for the stories will remain with the author.

I have a student friend in India who writes 'real life' short stories (some 'chilling'). Would a submission from him be welcome?

The deadline for this particular call for submissions was August 31, but your friend can send direct inquiries to the editor, using the email address in the announcement.

Importance of African Languages in African Literature

Once in a while, I check  the search engines terms that are driving the most traffic to my blog, Wealth of Ideas, and the searches are often revealing of what kinds of information people are looking for  at any time. Today, of the several interesting ones,  "the importance of African languages in African literature" stood out. It's a topic I too am passionate about. Abuja Writers' Forum Call for Submissions
